Web design, Mansfield
A website is a sales tool, not a brochure. Every build starts with what you actually need it to do — take enquiries, sell products, get found locally — and the design follows from there.

A website built around the jobs it has to do
Most small-business websites fail for a simple reason: nobody decided what they were for. A good site has one or two clear jobs, and it does them well. It gets the phone ringing, fills in an enquiry form, books appointments, or takes orders. Every page, button and heading should push a visitor towards one of those actions, and anything that doesn’t is clutter.
That is how I approach every project. I’m a single developer based in Mansfield, working with businesses across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the rest of the UK. You deal directly with the person designing and building your site, and I do everything by phone, WhatsApp, email and video call. Prices are fixed and agreed before I start, and web design begins from £850. Most brochure sites take two to four weeks from sign-off, and I’ll explain anything unfamiliar as we go. You keep ownership of your domain, hosting account and licences throughout.

Why bespoke over a template

Starting from what your site must do
Before I open a design tool, I ask a few plain questions. What is the most valuable thing a visitor can do? How do your customers usually decide to get in touch or buy? A plumber needs a phone number that is easy to tap. A therapist needs a booking route that takes seconds. Once the goal is clear, I plan the pages and write the structure of each one, so the design has a purpose. You can see some recent projects.
You don’t need to be technical or have a finished plan. What helps:
- Your logo and brand colours, if you have them. If not, see logo and brand design.
- Photos of your work or team. Real photos usually beat stock images.
- A rough idea of the pages you think you need.
You don’t need to choose a theme or understand any jargon. I handle those decisions and explain them plainly.
Designed for phones, speed and search
Most visitors will see your site on a phone first, so I design for the small screen and then scale up to desktop, not the other way round. Buttons are large enough to tap, text is readable without zooming, and your phone number and enquiry form are never more than a thumb’s reach away, wherever visitors are on the page.
Speed matters just as much. My builds average a page load of under 0.8 seconds, because I use clean code and only load what each page needs. Slow sites frustrate visitors, and people leave before the page has even appeared.
I also lay the groundwork for search engines as I build: sensible page titles, clear headings, descriptions for images and a logical structure. That gives you a solid base, but no one can promise rankings. If you want ongoing work to help local customers find you, local SEO builds on it.
What affects the price of a website
Web design starts from £850. Where your project lands depends on a handful of things:
- Number of pages and how much custom design each needs.
- Features such as booking forms, galleries, quote calculators or member areas.
- Selling online. A shop is a bigger job, and I’d quote it separately as a WooCommerce build.
- Copy and photography. If you supply them, the cost is lower; if I help produce them, it is higher. Text and images are often what holds a project up, so it pays to gather them early.
After a short conversation you get a fixed-price quote, and payments are staged across the build so you’re never paying for work that hasn’t happened yet. I’ll also tell you plainly if something you’ve asked for isn’t worth the money. If spreading the cost suits you better, there are pay-monthly websites from £65 a month.
