Evovle Mindfulness Recovery - Sutton in Ashfield

Contrast therapy, also known as hot and cold immersion therapy, is a therapeutic technique that involves alternating the application of heat and cold to a specific area of the body. The basic concept of contrast therapy begins by immersing or applying the affected area in hot water or using a hot compress for a set amount of time, typically ranging from 3 to 5 minutes. The heat causes blood vessels to dilate, increasing circulation to the area, which helps relax muscles, reduce stiffness, and promote healing.

After the heat application, the area is then immediately exposed to cold water or a cold compress for an equally timed period, usually 1 to 3 minutes. The cold causes the blood vessels to constrict, reducing inflammation, swelling, and pain. This alternation between hot and cold triggers a pumping effect in the blood vessels, encouraging improved circulation, reducing muscle soreness, and aiding in the removal of toxins from the tissues.

This cycle of alternating hot and cold treatments is typically repeated several times in a session, usually for a total of 15 to 30 minutes. Contrast therapy is commonly used in physical therapy, sports recovery, and rehabilitation for its benefits in reducing pain, improving flexibility, and accelerating recovery after injury or intense exercise.
