How To Get Better Indexing For Your Blog Using Search Engine Optimisation

If you have basic knowledge in search engine optimisation, you know that it is not enough to have good and quality content in your blog. Your blog should never be overlooked, most especially if you want to have large number of visits in your blog.

The more you should give attention to your blog if this is one avenue for you to promote your products and services online. Of course, when it comes to search optimisation, you should create content that targets related keywords or key phrases so people can find you easily when they search online.

Aside from this, you may very well do a few more important tweaks to help get your blog indexed better by SEs. Always remember that when it comes to search engine optimisation and content, keep your blog content targeted on its keywords as much as possible.

Targeted traffic would mean more chance of getting lots of visitors and possible internet lead and opportunities to generate sales. Below are additional search optimisation tips to help your blog get indexed fast:

Build links and get your website linked

Popularity in search directories would not be possible without link building. This, perhaps, is one of the most popular ways to do search engine optimisation.

In your blog, you may keep on writing quality posts like how-tos, tips, opinionated articles, and so on. Aside from having several links within your content, you should do some linking to other blogs that are related to your post.

Use of long tail keywords

If you are not familiar with long tail keywords, these are phrases composed of two to four words designed to specify or narrow the search topic or specific information is targeted. Long tail keywords are generated using google Keyword Tool and other keyword research tools.

Always include targeted keywords in your titles and URLs

This is always the golden rule when it comes to search engine optimisation – The more you include targeted keywords in your titles and contents, the better your blog will be placed in search engines. Again, it is best that you carefully choose your target keywords and key phrases.

Doing the above search optimisation techniques will help guarantee your blog’s placement in the first pages SEs. Search engine optimisation is not that hard if you know how to produce quality content, keeping in mind strategic link building tactics like better keyword research and on-page search optimisation.

Speed Up Your WordPress Blog

Speed Up Your WordPress Blog

Speed Up Your wordpress Blog

A key factor in increasing a blog’s ranking in search engines and keeping visitors satisfied is the loading time of your website or blog. Obviously, nobody wants to visit a site that crawls slower than a snail. All online readers prefer no errors and not waiting longer than the time it takes for instant noodles to cook. Click and boom-that’s what we are all looking for in a blog.

Gone are the days when using the Internet needed more time to allow the page to show up on the monitor. It is true what they say that any blog or website only have at most ten seconds to draw attention from a visitor and make him or her browse through the pages. If your blog is taking longer to appear than this allotted time, say goodbye to potential readers.

If you want your wordpress blog to stay ahead of the pack, make some efforts to optimize it and reduce the load time with plug-ins that can help turbocharge your site. The following is a list of wordpress plug-ins that could help you achieve faster load time and higher ranking in search engines.

1. WP HTTP Compression – This plug-in reduces the size of the page by as much as 80% and increases download speed by 4 times. However, don’t use this with the WP Super Cache.

2. Hyper Cache – This is ideal if your site is not hosted by a provider which lacks whole pile of cutting edge resources. Hyper Cache is very easy to configure. It is also automatically optimized to minimize the disk usage in your site.

3. WP Optimize – An effective but very simple database clean-up tool. This plug-in lets you run database maintenance without the PhpMyAdmin. You can also use this to clear spams and comment queues with just a few clicks.

4. WP Smush It – Automatically reduces the image file size. Considered as very neat and effective by testers.

5. WP Minify – This helps the user compress CSS and JavaScript files to make the page loading easier and speedier. Since many theme developers do not take the time to optimize CSS, WP Minify is a great tool to accomplish the tasks.

6. Hosting Monitor Plugin- Hailed as a “cool” plugin, Hosting Monitor lets users check their host-up time, load average, hardware info and of course, the current visitors. This allows you to keep tabs of web host and monitor the problems.

7. WP Super Cache- Reduces overhead on the server that dishes out files when SQL database for wordpress install is not involved. Check first its compatibility with other themes or plugins you are using to ensure that it will work.

The key to your blog’s success is speed and quality the above plugins and others will really help and also help with your search engine rankings.

Optimize Your Blog With These 8 Tips For WordPress SEO

Optimize Your Blog With These 8 Tips For WordPress SEO

Optimize Your Blog With These 8 Tips For wordpress SEO

So you’ve got a wordpress blog, have made some posts but are hungry for more traffic. I’ll assume you are putting out unique, quality content.

There are many things you can do to get more traffic, but one of the first things you need to do is optimize your blog for the search engines. If the search engines don’t notice your blog, you’re not going to get a lot of traffic, at least not the free kind. Here are 8 tips to optimize your wordpress blog for SEO.

Keyword Research

Your Main Keyword

As you will see in the rest of this article it is important to have a primary keyword that you are going after. This is the keyword that you want the homepage of your blog to rank for.

It should be related to your niche, have decent traffic but not be overly competitive so that you can rank for it realistically in the long term. For example, I’ve recently decided to go after “Network Marketing Online” which has decent traffic but over time can realistically be ranked towards the top.

Once you have decided on your keyword, put it in your title tag, heading and the anchor text of backlinks. As a general rule of thumb, the sooner the keyword appears in a title, permalink or body copy the better.

Sub Keywords

You should also do keyword research for each new blog post and page that you create, though you will generally want to go after less competitive keywords than your blog’s main keyword.

Make sure the keyword appears in each blog title, permalink and 2 or 3 times in the body of the post particularly in the first and last paragraph or even sentence if possible. Again the sooner you can have the keyword in the title, permalink and body the better.

Title Tags

The title tag is probably the most important onsite factor and if you don’t get this right, you are leaving a lot of traffic on the table. Best practice for title tags is to include your brand name + 1 or 2 of your sites MAIN keywords.

Hopefully you know what keywords you want your blog to rank for. If not go and find some good keywords for your niche now! (I actually did a video on Free SEO Keyword research in an earlier blog post that you can check out).

You can choose to leave the brand or blog name out of the title tag. Leaving it out can boost your rankings slightly (as you’ve probably got the brand/blog name in the domain name) but leaving it in can help build your brand, so this one’s up to you.

Search engines have a character limit on title tags for what shows up in the search engines result page. Each search engine has a different limit but keeping your title tag to less than 65 characters including spaces will be under the character limit of the main search engines.

Meta Tags & Keywords

Once upon a time, Meta Description and Keyword Tags were very important to your search engine rankings. Today however they don’t impact your ranking very much and google has openly said that they don’t take the Meta Keywords into account at all.

However, the Meta Description is still important for another reason. When your blog shows up in the search engines, a snippet will be displayed which is your Meta Description. A well written Meta Description may not affect search engine rankings but it can definitely improve click through.

As for the Meta Keyword Tag, it doesn’t hurt to use it (unless you stuff it with keywords) and smaller search engines may still place some sort of importance to it.

A Permalink is the URL for a post. The default wordpress permalinks don’t help you at all as they are usually EXAMPLEURL/?p=10 or something similar which isn’t at all sexy and won’t help you in the rankings or in the searcher’s eyes.

Instead change your permalink structure so that they display what the post is actually about.

To do this go to Settings >> Permalinks and then change the format to /%postname%/

Now whenever you do a new post, the title of your blog post will be used in the permalink. As you should have a keyword that you’re tring to rank for in the title, it will also appear in the permalink, thus increasing search engine ranking.

If the title is long, then make sure to shorten the permalink. For example EXAMPLEURL/what-should-i-have-for-dinner-tonight-i-feel-like-pasta-but-its-a-lot-of-carbs-maybe-i-should-just-have-a-salad which I concede is a very extreme example, wouldn’t make a very good permalink nor would http:// …well, you get the idea.

ALT Attributes

ALT A tributes are used to display alternative text, usually for an image. This could be because an image isn’t showing, for a text browser or for visually impaired readers. But alt attributes can also help you in the search engine rankings, not just for the image section, but for the overall rankings as well.

wordpress applies alt attributes to images automatically based on the file name. E.g. if your image is named “the-stig.jpg” (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t like the stig?) the alternate text will become “the-stig”.

So whenever you upload an image to your blog, make sure name it something relative to the post or page (a keyword for example).

This is something admittedly that I haven’t been doing up until now. Basically interlinking is linking to another page or post within your blog. Only do this if what you’re linking to is relevant. I’ve given an instance of this above where I linked to a video I did on keyword research because it was relevant to what I was talking about.

Building a blog should be viewed as a long term process. There are many more SEO techniques that you can apply to your blog, but these 7 are some of the main ways to optimize your wordpress blog for SEO and will start you on your way to big search engine traffic.

Starting a Hip Hop Blog – 5 Easy Steps to Rap Profits

Starting a Hip Hop Blog - 5 Easy Steps to Rap Profits

Starting a Hip Hop Blog – 5 Easy Steps to Rap Profits

Are you a hip-hop artist, producer, entrepreneur or fan who wants to make money in the rap industry? Have you ever thought about starting a hip-hop blog? Believe it or not, hip-hop blogs are becoming more and more popular, and there are plenty of opportunities for hip-hop bloggers to make money online. If the idea of getting paid to share your thoughts and opinions about rap is music to your ears, here’s how to get started.

Step 1 – Choose a Domain Name and Web Host

A domain name is the website address that people will use to visit your blog. In general, you will want to choose a domain name that is easy to remember and gives people an idea of what type of content they will find on your site. Examples of things you may want to use as a domain name are:

  • Your stage name (if you are an artist)
  • Your company name (if you have an entertainment company or independent record label)
  • Your blog name
  • Catch phrases or descriptive names

Chances are, your first option for a domain name will already be taken, so be prepared with alternates.

Once you find an available domain you like, you will need to register it quickly to prevent someone else from using it. There is a small domain registration fee, but many web hosting services will waive the domain registration fee when you sign up for hosting.

Step 2 – Install wordpress

wordpress is blogging software that has been used to power over 200 million websites. There are a number of reasons wordpress is so popular:

  • Affordability – wordpress is 100% free
  • Ease of Use – It does not require any computer or programming skills to install or use
  • Highly Customizable – There are thousands of free themes and plug-ins available for download
  • Supported – wordpress has one of the largest development communities of any open source software, so it’s easy to find free technical support online

wordpress can usually be installed in less than five minutes through your web hosting control panel. Once installed, you can customize your blog by downloading the hip-hop theme of your choice and installing whichever plug-ins you want to use through your blog’s dashboard.

Step 3 – Start Publishing Hip-Hop Related Content

Once you set up your blog, you will be ready to start publishing content. In general, you will want to publish content of interest to hip-hop fans. This could include:

  • Hip-hop related news
  • Music, videos and images featuring rappers
  • Reviews of new rap music
  • Information about upcoming hip-hop events
  • Links to other hip-hop blogs

If you are a rapper or producer, you should have no problem creating content based on your own music. Similarly, if you are starting your own entertainment company or independent hip-hop record label, you can blog about the artists you’re working with. If you are not in the music business at all, you can spend a couple of hours each day reading other hip-hop blogs and write a post each day about the hottest hip-hop topics. The key is to create as many good hip-hop related posts as you can each week.

The posts you publish on your blog will eventually be “crawled” and “indexed” by the major search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.). Once indexed, your blog will start showing up in search results for hip-hop related content. The more posts you publish and the better the quality of those posts, the better chance you have of people discovering your blog through search engines.

Step 4 – Monetize Your Blog

There are lots of ways to make money as a hip-hop blogger. Here are some of the easiest ways:

  • Join an advertising network and earn money each time someone clicks on an advertisement on your site
  • Join an affiliate program and earn commissions by recommending products and services you use to your readers
  • Install a free e-commerce plug-in and sell your own CDs, digital downloads and hip-hop related merchandise
  • Sell ad space directly to artists and labels who want to promote their music through your site
  • Turn your blog into a membership site and charge people a fee for access to exclusive content
  • Charge a small fee for each CD you review on your blog
  • Charge people to post their rap videos on your blog

These are just some of the easy ways to make money as a hip-hop blogger. Experiment with each of these methods and see which methods earn you the most cash. Or, be creative and come up with something entirely new. As long as you keep coming up with content and getting traffic, the money will come.

Step 5 – Promote Your Blog

Now that you have got your hip-hop blog up and running, you need to start promoting it. The more targeted web traffic you get, the more money you are likely to make. Therefore, it is important that your blog gets seen by as many hip-hop fans as possible. Here are some free ways to promote your hip-hop blog:

  • Add your website to as many hip-hop friendly website directories as you can
  • Become an active participant in hip-hop forums and conversations on other hip-hop blogs (be sure to include a link to your blog in your “signature”)
  • Set up pages on social media sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and link them to your blog
  • Talk to other bloggers about reviewing your site, swapping links and possibly writing guest posts
  • Write hip-hop related articles and submit them to article directories (like this one)

By following these quick, easy steps, you can start your own hip-hop blog and be on the road to rap profits in a matter of hours.

Hosted Or Self-Hosted WordPress Blog Website?

Hosted Or Self-Hosted WordPress Blog Website?

Hosted Or Self-Hosted wordpress Blog Website?

wordpress is a free, the most professional and the most customisable blog publishing application. It allows you to easily create a blog or website for free. Blogging is becoming more and more popular on the internet these days. wordpress is also now used to create Websites and for that reason you want your blog/website to be different to the other blogs. So when choosing the wordpress type of hosting, consider both the advantage and disadvantage that comes with each.

You can either use hosted or self-hosted wordpress. Self-hosted wordpress blogging platform needs you to manually install and host the wordpress software whereas the Hosted wordpresswordpress.com blogging platform is managed by wordpress developer professionals. There are advantages and disadvantages for both hosted and self-hosted wordpress.

Hosted wordpresswordpress.com

It is really easy to set up and you are ready to go online within minutes. It is also automatically updated when the new release comes out. It is less flexible than the wordpress you download and install yourself. Hosted wordpress is also limited in choosing your domain.

  • Free – you don’t have to pay for hosting and domain registration. All you need is an e-mail address.
  • Automatic Updates – Each time the new version becomes available, your blog will be automatically updated.
  • Easy to Use and Set-up – All you need to do is to create a wordpress account, choose your subdomain, theme and you are ready to go

  • No income – with hosted wordpress you cannot monetize your blog. All the advertisements are controlled and you are not allowed to display advertisements
  • Domain limitation – your domain will be like yourblogname.wordpress.com
  • Limited storage space – if you run out of space you will need
  • Limited Design – you will get to choose from over 75 themes

When you need a professional blog/website you don’t want to be limited with your design, domain name, (you only get a subdomain, like yourdomain.wordpress.com. Other limitations are also with earning revenue, as you can’t display advertisements to show your AdSense, Yahoo,… ads. All you can do is add affiliate links in your post.

Self-Hosted wordpress

With self-hosted wordpress you will need to download, install and host the free wordpress platform yourself. You will use your own domain name, which will make your blog/website more professional.

You will also need to get hosting and also will have to do upgrades when new wordpress is available. You can easily customise it, make all the changes you wish to make according to your niche.

But the main thing is that you can earn income from your blog/website. You can display all advertisements like AdSense, Yahoo etc. This can give you a big revenue. The cost varies on how much help you need, who you use to register your domain and hosting with.

A wordpress Blog that is hosted through your own domain ensures that your site is not only completely optimised for search engine ranking, but also provides the highest level of customisation and options to earn revenue.

With self hosted blog you gain more power and control of your own blog.

  • Earn revenue – start selling your own products or promoting someone else’s products. You are allowed to add a shopping cart and any number of plug-ins for tracking, click-throughs, and other widgets that generate revenue.
  • Design – No limitation on themes. There are many free themes available and also customised or premium themes to make it more professional.
  • Complete control – you can customise your blog/website as you wish. No limitation on the design. This will help you to differentiate your blog from others. You will have many more options as your online business evolves and grows.
  • Search Engine Optimisation – wordpress is Search Engine friendly and allows every single page to be indexed.
  • Own Domain Name – choose the right name for your blog/website, get recognised, brand yourself. Do your keywords research first.

  • Not as easy to set up – you will need to download and install wordpress. This also depend on the type of Hosting you use.
  • Not automatically updated – wordpress is becoming more and more popular and it is updated regularly and so you will need to manually update the self-hosted blog with the new release
  • Cost – you will have to pay for hosting and domain renewal. With the professional blog, or if you wish to use it as a Website, you will need a professional to design you a unique theme.

Steps To Optimize a High Traffic WordPress Blog

Steps To Optimize a High Traffic WordPress Blog

Steps To Optimize a High Traffic wordpress Blog

wordpress is one of the best content management system (CMS) for blogging. And the best thing about wordpress is, it is free and open source, yet powerful. It have committed growing community which develop plugins and themes. And according to Wikipedia, wordpress shares over 12% of 1.000.000 biggest websites on the internet. This make wordpress unbeatable on this kind of CMS.

But like a double edged sword, wordpress so powerful but also resources sucker. More complicated the system, and more resources taking it will be. If it is just a plain wordpress installation, it doesn’t take so much resources. But if you add more and more plugins and more complicated themes, then it will take so much resources. So why not uninstall all the plugins then?

Let’s come what is the wordpress plugins for. The wordpress plugins goal is to extended the wordpress core function with to add more features to the wordpress. Since wordpress plugins developed by community or personal developer, not all wordpress plugins are good. Most of them are dead projects or abandon projects. And this will make many issues to the wordpress blog itself. And high CPU load is one of them.

Low traffic wordpress blog usually won’t make problems with high CPU load or high memory usage. But when it comes to high traffic blog, you have to think about the CPU load and memory usage. Otherwise your blog will slowing down and worst your account will be suspended. Getting suspended is really bad experience, you lost visitors, and that’s not good for your site SEO.

Follow the tips below to optimize your high traffic blog:

1. Plugins
wordpress plugins system is one of the most powerful feature from wordpress. Developers or the community can easily make plugins to extend wordpress feature. Beside its easy to use API, it also have complete API documentation. And there are lot of samples and articles on the internet how to develop a wordpress plugin. But this is the double edge feature. Even it is powerful, not all plugins are good. Some of them are dead project or discontinue, and worse it leave security holes to your wordpress blog. So my suggestion is, minimize the use of wordpress plugins. Use only the highly recommended (high rating and most download) and live plugins (not discontinued). Always test plugin on your dummy site before you upload to your live site. One mistake could bring disaster to your site. So choose carefully.

2. Themes
wordpress templates/themes system also one of the best feature of wordpress. You can change themes and customize it easily. And there are lots of themes free or premium themes you can find. I suggest you to use simple, easy to read and beautiful themes for your high traffic blog. Because if your themes is complicated, it will take more resources to your server. For example sliding featured post, this is a good feature for user. But not for server load. Minimize your themes (css, image, and javascript), so it will optimize your server load.

3. Optimize Script
Script optimisation means, delete unnecessary script and modified to optimize script algorithm. Scripts included php, css, sql and javascript. Check your script execution time, and do optimize, optimize and optimize.

4. Use Cache mechanism
This is one of the most important thing you should have for high traffic blog, Caching mechanism. There are lot of wordpress plugin to do caching. There are 4 caching mechanism: database caching, page caching, memory caching and object caching. Database and Page caching that you should have. There are some plugins to do that, but i highly recommend to install db cache reloaded and hyper cache. These 2 plugins would be the best for caching mechanism.

5. Host images to another server or use cdn
Host your images on another server or use cdn could be better. Host images on another server or cdn will reduce your server cpu load. Imagine if you have 1k images stored on your server. And you have to serve 10k visitors a day. This will take your cpu resources, and the result your site will response slower. Beside images, you can host css and javascript files too on another server or cdn.

6. Analyze your traffic
Use and analyze your analytic or traffic monitoring application. I recommend google analytics and Awstats. google anayltics to analyze your traffic sources, daily traffic, and many things. And from this data you can make decision where you should host your site, for example most your traffic is come from US, then host your site inside US. And analyze your traffic with Awstats (available on Cpanel), to find less traffic hours. And you should do your backup or update on this hours.

7. Optimize database and backup regularly
Optimize database, is also important, if you have lots of data on your MySql database, it will make overhead data. So you need to regularly optimize your database to keep your MySql database performance. And You should backup your database regularly, for disaster prevention.

8. Upgrade to VPS
At last, when you get 5K traffic per day, you don’t have another option but go for VPS (Virtual Private Server). Buy the the smallest or medium VPS just for a start. And later as your site growing, add more resources to your VPS.

That’s it for now. Final words, good luck to your blogs and happy blogging.

Blog Design – 3 Ways to Redesign Your Blog

Blog Design - 3 Ways to Redesign Your Blog

Blog Design – 3 Ways to Redesign Your Blog

  • Does your blog have an outdated design?
  • Does your current design look unattractive?
  • Do you want to attract and retain your visitors?

If you have an outdated or unattractive design for your blog it may turn off your visitors. Website owners often fall in love with their own design without seeing it from their visitor’s viewpoint. Ask several of your friends to evaluate your current blog design by asking for their honest opinions. Alternatively visit Web site design forums and ask for a free evaluation.

3 ways to redesign your blog

1. Customize your current blog

Instead of investing a lot of time and money by starting from scratch customize your current design a little to give it a new look. Here are two simple wordpress customizations that will give your blog an attractive new design:

Select a new theme

  • google “free wordpress themes”
  • Scroll through the list of themes and choose one that will suit your business
  • Download the themes file to your desktop
  • Unzip the files using Winzip or other software
  • Upload the folder to the themes folder on the server (wp-content-themes)
  • Log in to your administration panel and click on settings — Appearance
  • Select your new theme then save it
  • Refresh the web page to view your new theme

Change the heading banner

  • Design a new banner in your favorite graphics software (e.g. Photoshop, Fireworks)
  • Right-click on your current header image then select properties to find the name of the banner
  • Name your new banner the same as the old one then save it on your desktop
  • Upload the new banner to replace the old one on the server
  • Refresh your web page to view the new banner

2. Purchase a premium wordpress design template

Why purchase a premium design template when you can easily install a free theme?

Premium themes contain clean code, are optimized for the search engines plus you receive professional technical support should you have problems with installation or customization. It also saves you time looking through hundreds of free themes not knowing what’s in the code or if the theme will be updated. Theme developers invest lots of time to make sure the designs look professional. This allows you to easily upgrade your current design with a professional theme for your business.

3. Hire a professional Web designer

A professional web designer will create a customized design that matches the tone of your business. The design will be unique so it will stand out from your competitors plus it will be easier to brand your business. Your Web designer gives you peace of mind because you will receive professional advice, technical support and he’ll suggest effective ways to promote your blog.
